Youth Outreach
Carmichael HART has played a pivotal role in supporting vulnerable youth and students within the San Juan Unified School District (SJUSD). Through a collaborative network of faith communities, nonprofits, businesses, and dedicated individuals, Carmichael HART has implemented several initiatives aimed at addressing the challenges faced by at-risk students and their families.
Addressing Basic Needs and Family Support
Recognizing that academic success is closely tied to meeting basic needs, Carmichael HART works alongside SJUSD to address challenges such as transportation, food insecurity, and family stability. By ensuring that students have access to essential resources, the organization helps create a foundation for consistent school attendance and engagement.
Annual Backpack and School Supply Drive
Each year, Carmichael HART organizes a community-wide effort to collect backpacks and school supplies for students facing housing instability. In 2024, the drive successfully gathered over 400 backpacks filled with essential items, thanks to the collaboration of local churches, businesses, and social clubs. These supplies are distributed to students identified by the SJUSD's McKinney-Vento program, which supports students experiencing homelessness.
